DANIEL MENDEZ
Chairman
Brother Daniel "El Movimiento" Mendez joined Sigma Lambda Beta on May 14, 2006, as the Anchor of the Phoenix line for the Almighty Alpha Chapter at the University of Iowa. As a student brother, Daniel founded the Association of Latinx Movement Ahead (ALMA) and as an activist-led one of the largest pro-immigrant marches in Iowa City history. After graduating in 2008 with a Bachelor's degree in Spanish, brother Daniel began working at the University of Illinois at Chicago as an admission Officer and now works as Team Lead for the multiple record team at the same university. He currently resides in the Chicagoland area with his lovely family. Brother Daniel believes in the mission of the Omega Fund due to the unfortunate passing of his line brother Daichi 'Cuhete' Tokedome on February 26, 2014.
PHILLIP GUERRERO
Board Member
Brother Phillip Guerrero joined Sigma Lambda Beta on June 11, 1995, at Theta Chapter, Indiana University. As a student, Brother Guerrero would go on to complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Business with a double focus of Supervision Management and Computer Information Systems with a Minor in Economics. Professionally, Phillip has had a successful career in Healthcare Information Technology. His current role is a Solutions Consultant for Kaiser Permanente supporting Telehealth initiatives, such as Video Visits, Online Physical Therapy, and Remote Patient Monitoring. He currently resides on the island of Oahu in the state of Hawaii. Brother Guerrero was drawn to the Omega Fund due to the untimely passing of two Indiana Brothers.
JASON SMOLKA
Board Member
Brother Jason Smolka joined Sigma Lambda Beta on December 21, 2001 as the captain of the resurrection line for the Omicron Chapter at Iowa State University. As a student, Brother Smolka would go on to complete a Bachelor’s of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Engineering, and a Master’s of Engineering in Systems Engineering from Iowa State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Chicago. Professionally, Jason has spent time as an entrepreneur, engineer, hedge fund analyst, faculty member, and higher education administrator. He currently resides in the Chicagoland area with his wife and three children. Brother Smolka was drawn to the Omega Fund due to the untimely passing of his roommate and chapter brother Edgard del Pilar on March 8, 2004.
EDDIE DIAZ
Board Member
Brother Eddie Diaz joined Sigma Lambda Beta on December 21, 2001, as the anchor of the resurrection line for the Omicron Chapter at Iowa State University. Brother Eddie completed his undergraduate degree in Political science followed by a Master's degree in teaching from Drake University and a Master's in Educational Leadership from Drake. Brother Eddie's professional experience includes 7 years in the Marine Corps, work in non-profit organizations, and the last 10 years in education, first as a high school teacher, then a school principal and now a community college administrator in Iowa. He is married to Angelica and has three children, Diego, Rebecca, and Sofia. Brother Eddie has engaged with the Omega Fund due to the passing of his chapter brother Edgar del PIlar.
ANGEL PELAEZ
Board Member
Brother Angel Pelaez joined SLB on January 24, 2002, as the anchor of the Omicron line for The UnRuLy X Chapter at Pace University. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and is a Credit Manager at a payroll company. Now located in Denver, he enjoys spending his time with his wife and two daughters. Brother Angel has dedicated his time on the board in memory of his ADOP Ray “Malakas” Dalangin.
